Okay guys, I know there is a lot of n00bs out there, and I don't blame anyone, for poweplaying, we were all new once. But just to help yous out, and to help myself so I don't have to keep yelling XD I wrote this small informative piece all about poweplaying. Enjoy..
Poweplaying. In it's essence, it is to move, or react with another character without the others consent. The most common forms of powerplaying are:
- Changing or misinterpreting anothers movements.
- Completing a combat move.
- Judging that a character 'would' do this, when they wouldn't, and didn't.
- A weaker character defeating a strong one.
Some examples:
Person A: Cassy picked up her pencil, lost in thought. As she stared out the window, she heard a noise. Looking around, she noticed a girl, wearing an orange and blue jumper, and kicking a ball around outside. Cassy smiled, and watched the girl for a while.
Person B: As Franny walked along the basketball court, she was aware that someone was watching her. Looking up at the neaby windows, she spotted a girl watching her. How dare she? Picking up a rock, Franny threw it as hard as she could, smashing the window, and hitting the girl in the head.
In person A's post, the powerplaying (in red) is shown by person A telling person B what person B should be doing. Person B has control over their character, so person A cannot say what person B is doing, until person B has said it. (Does that make sense?)
Person B is powerplaying by completing a move. It is powerplaying to decide what happens to the other persons character after your character ties to hurt them, or perform some sort of action on them.
Heres how it should look:
Person A: Picking up her pencil, Cassy stared out the window. She could see somebody down there. Wondering what they were doing, and mildly bored, Casy began to watch them.
Person B: As Franny walked, she could feel eyes on her. She turned, wondering who was watching her, and saw a girl staring at her from a window. Franny bent down, picking up a small rock. She aimed it at the window, hoping it would smash it, and maybe even hit the girl.
Both of these show evidence of no powerplaying. After each post, the next person can decide how the move affects their character. After person A's post, Franny was still able to choose what her character was doing, and how she looked. After person B's post, Cassy (assuming she was next in the order) was able to decide whether the rock hits her character, or the window, or nothing. Though she can choose to let it smash the window, she still has FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT.
Freedom of movement is the key thing to remember when roleplaying. Remember, do not give the next person no choice. There must be a line, where they can say yes, or no, it is up to them.
Be sure, if you have a small female character, or a child, that you do not try and get them to kill a big strong man, a knight, or something like that. Completing a move like that is ludricrous, and against powerplaying rules.
I hope I covered it all.. Sorry for any mistakes/unclear sections, it's 10.30 at night.. I'm tired//
Please post with questions, I want to know that you each understand the line between non-powerplaying, and powerplaying. [/b][/blockquote]
